Feeling down and you just can’t kick it? Or do you feel really tired and just aren’t interested in doing things with your friends? Or maybe you are feeling really jumpy and can’t sleep well. Some people with depression think about death or suicide a lot. These all may be signs of depression and if you are feeling this way you should know that you aren’t alone. Depression is a very common illness and it can be treated so people can get on with a normal life.

Untreated depression is the leading cause of suicide. In Vermont, suicide is the second leading cause of death for adolescents, after motor vehicle crashes, and is in the top 10 causes of death for ALL Vermonters.

If you or someone you know is experiencing depression, other mental illnesses, having a hard time coping, or expresses interest in committing suicide, do NOT hesitate to call someone for help. In Vermont, you can call 2-1-1 for many crisis centers near you or other mental health resources. You can also call your healthcare provider, a nearby hospital, or click here for more information.
